Universities and Higher Education

As of 2009, the Australia higher education system has 41 universities. Out of those 41 universities, 37 of the universities are public, 2 are private, and 2 of them are Australian branches of universities that have their main campuses overseas.

There are also 3 self-accrediting higher education institutions that you can consider. On top of these schools, there are also dozens of smaller schools that do not grant any degrees or have accreditation. Most of these are private schools that focus on theology, business, information technology, natural therapies, hospitality, health, law and accounting.

 The higher education system in Australia is overseen by the federal, state, and territory governments, but each school is unique in terms of the programs they offer and where they are located. The syllabi and program requirements will differ based on the school you attend. You may want to consider a university in a particular state, city, or region, or you may want to look at a university that specializes in the field you are considering for study.
