In Banke district, so many times the smuggled timbers are detained; however, smugglers are never arrested. Though the vehicles used for the smuggling are detained, there is no example of arresting any one smuggler, nor have District Forest Office and District Police Office Banke any record of the smugglers. It clearly depicts that there is strong give and take between the smugglers and the District Forest Office and the District Police Office.

Though the vehicles (bullock carts) are detained by the District Forest Office, there are many cases that the bullock carts are given back to the owners at the village.

Recently, on Thursday night, a lorry full of timbers of multi-diversity heading to Banke through Bardiya’s Jamuni was detained and delivered to the police. Police, saying it is not under their authority, the woods were handed over to the District Forest Office.

Narayan Pardhe, District Forest Officer, District Forest Office, Banke, says, “The woods out of EGHARA LADHIYA (11 dollop) have been detained. It has been detained while it was bing transferred from Bardiya to Banke.” DFO Pardhe says, “There is no supporting paper of the loaded timbers. It will be clear about the owner of the timber when the vehicle will be sent to the owner.”
Here at the Area Unit Office, Dhanauri, Khajura, Banke, the Chief Police Officer Mr. Tikaram Regmi has said that the Indian Timber Smugglers, establishing the collection centre, have smuggled the woods through Banke.

“Though the timbers have been detained; however, the owner of the timbers have not been detained yet,” says Chief Inspector Regmi.
